What is a Pre-Shipment Inspection
A Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) is the most widely booked quality control checkpoint. Carried out when 80% to 100% of goods are finished and packed, the PSI uses internationally recognised AQL sampling (ISO 2859-1 / ANSI/ASQ Z1.4) to assess the whole lot before it leaves the factory.
What the PSI covers
- Quantity and assortment — carton count, units per carton, style, colour and size breakdown
- Workmanship and appearance — visual defects, assembly, surface finish, stitching, welding, printing
- Function and performance — assembly, power-on, load, safety and fit-for-use tests
- Measurements and specs — dimensions, weight, material grade, conformance to drawings
- Packing, marking and labelling — inner/outer packing, barcodes, carton marks, warnings
- On-site testing — drop tests, torque, adhesion, hi-pot, earth continuity and other applicable checks
When to book a PSI
Book a PSI when at least 80% of goods are finished and packed, before final balance payment and shipment release. It is the standard safeguard for every export order.
